What are guests sipping on?
In 2025, a few mixology trends are dominating the menus at these bars. Food-inspired cocktails are having a major moment. Think drinks that channel the flavors of tomatoes, cold noodles, or even sour cream and onion chips. Bartenders are increasingly leaning into umami-rich ingredients like miso, mushroom, nori, and soy to create savory, layered experiences that challenge the palate in the best way.
Caffeinated cocktails are also powering the night with cold brew-infused martinis, espresso spritzes, and even matcha creations. These drinks walk the line between after-dinner treats and party fuel, which appropriately cater to the city’s never-sleep energy.
Presentation is also getting the star treatment. Whether you’re into it or think it’s fluff, funky, retro-inspired glassware, like coupes shaped like seashells or martini glasses with twisted stems, are popping up everywhere. Sidecars, not the classic brandy cocktail, but mini pours served alongside the main drink are making a comeback, offering a playful “bonus round” for the guest. (For about $23 a pop we’ll take every ounce we can get). NYC’s top cocktail bars aren’t just mixing drinks, they’re crafting experiences for each guest.
Without further ado, let’s get into it. Here are the best cocktails in New York City right now.
The best 15 cocktails in New York City
1. Death and Co. - The East Village
Starting off so strong, Death and Co. is located in the East Village. It’s one of the most significant and influential bars to emerge from the current craft cocktail revival. Death and Co. has held this prime NYC location since 2006 and has since opened locations in Denver, Los Angeles, and D.C.

Outstanding cocktails
⭐SEISMIC COLLISION - Mezcal Legendario Cupreata, Rhum J.M Volcanique, Green Chile, Pineapple, Lime Oil
⭐CORNICELLO - Moletto Tomato Gin, Basil Eau de Vie, Coconut Cream, Passion Fruit, Lime
⭐IMPERIAL MARCH - London Dry Gin, Pale Cream Sherry, Americano, Maraschino, Orange Bitters
Notes
The SEISMIC COLLISION fits in its category, Boozy & Honest, quite nicely. Served on the rocks, this cocktail was straightforward yet interesting. If you like mezcal, pineapple, and some spice you’ll love this.
The CORNICELLO is a fun cocktail! It’s served over a mountain of pebble ice (the best kind) and you can taste the coconut and passion fruit most predominately, with a finish of basil. This cocktail is meant for easy drinking as we agree with the menu — it’s light and playful.
The IMPERIAL MARCH is categorized under Death & Co.’s Modern Classic Cocktails and was crafted by former Death & Co. Bartender, Jessica Gonzalas in 2011. This cocktail is served up and has a complex, bittersweet, and slightly nutty flavor with a smooth, velvety texture. It comes highly recommended.
What makes it special
Go here for the moody, candlelit ambiance, top-tier service, and expertly crafted cocktails. If you can, ask for Taylor, as her drink recommendations are always on point.
Bonus: Death & Co. is located right next to A-1 Record Shop, so you can sip something special and dig through vinyl on the same night. Time to make those East Village plans.
2. Caffe Dante - Greenwich Village
If you take one recommendation from this list it just might be Caffe Dante, especially if you’re a Negroni fan. Established in 1915, Caffe Dante celebrates the traditional way of community in New York City. With over 100 years of history, Dante honors the simplicity of gathering with friends over authentic Italian-Australian food and world-class drink. This team has also opened a seafood-focused location in the West Village and most recently, a coffee shop, Caffe Paradiso, in Nolita.
Outstanding cocktails
⭐ESPRESSO MARTINI - Grey Goose, Mr. Black, fresh espresso
⭐CHOCOLATE NEGRONI - Botanist Gin, Campari, punt e mes, Tempus fugit creme de cacao, chocolate bitters
⭐DANTE’S GARIBADLI - Campari, fluffy orange juice
⭐“DIRTY”- Grey Goose, Cinzano 1757 dry, olive oil
⭐FlUFFY MARGARITA ROYALE - Olmeca altos, pierre ferrand dry curacao, lime juice, clementine & saffron, fluffy clementine, Prosecco

⭐ HONEY BEE - Patron Silver, Mr. Black, amontillado sherry, raspberry, chocolate bitters, salted honey cream
Notes
The ESPRESSO MARTINI here is so good, you’ll wish it was acceptable to swap it for your morning coffee. It’s velvety smooth, not overly sweet, and skips that harsh vodka bite so many others have.
The SPICY FRESCA is a sunny day in a glass. It’s light, refreshing, and finished with a tajin rim that brings the heat. The glass this cocktail comes in is a better-sized portion compared to most margarita-esque glassware.
The “DIRTY” is a showstopper. Served with a sidecar of olives on ice, the martini is poured table-side and finished with a droplet of olive oil. It’s elevated, perfectly briny, and arguably the best dirty martini on this entire list.
What makes it special
One unique thing about Dante is their juicing process. You might not know that you need fluffy orange juice with Campari but turns out you certainly do. The space is also cozy and the bar staff here is incredible. The UPSIDE DOWN DIRTY, which flips the typical dirty martini ratio on its head, is a standout worth trying next time.
3. Jean’s - NoHo
You’ve likely heard of Jean’s. Whether it be from Charlie XCX’s or the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' performances here, Alex Cooper’s Unwell Hydration launch party, or because of the insane chocolate chip cookie — Jean’s is the place to be. However, Jean’s reliably excellent dirty martini is reason enough to make Thursday nights a tradition.

Outstanding cocktails
⭐ THE DIRTY JEANS - a dirty martini with Birds Eye chilies added to the brine
Notes
In a world where spicy margs and dirty martinis dominate — why not create a spicy, dirty martini?
What makes it special
The people, the aesthetic, and the French dip make this place special. If you want to feel like you’re in New York City, Jean’s should be in your rotation.
4. Bar Madonna - Williamsburg
One of our newer features is Bar Madonna, a cool spot in Williamsburg. This bar opened its doors to Brooklyn locals in the Spring of 2024.
Bar Madonna's cocktail menu is a natural extension of the bar's inception. It blends Italian-American nostalgia with contemporary New York influences through a collaborative creative process. The team here transforms cultural references into balanced, artful cocktails. Creativity and hospitality go hand in hand at Bar Madonna. The menu here is more than just a list of drinks; it’s a reflection of the space itself—diverse, inviting, and full of surprises.

This establishment has been the most trendy restaurant of the past year by far. It’s incredibly difficult to get a reservation here, but your chances are higher if you go on a Sunday or Monday night.
The Corner Store’s beverage program is centered around the martini, ranging from elevated versions of the classics to innovative variations. The Corner Store offers tableside martini service, with drinks poured directly from the restaurant’s custom-branded glass bottles, each precisely diluted and perfectly chilled. ⭐ TOMATO MARTINI - Vodka, tomato water, Bianco vermouth, kosret
⭐ CAP’N CRUNCH MILK PUNCH - Tequila, Amontillado sherry, maple verjus, Cap’n Crunch
Notes
The COCONUT NEGRONI is the undeniable star here

Tomato lovers, don’t skip the TOMATO MARTINI. It’s fresh, savory, and surprisingly elegant.
Craving something sweet to end the night? The CAP’N CRUNCH MILK PUNCH is a nostalgic, boozy dessert in a glass.
The Caesar Salad here is worth every ounce of hype.
What makes it special
If possible, sit at the bar. The bar staff at The Corner Store really sells this experience. According to the team, the TCS MARGARITA, TUXEDO No. 2, and BLACK CHERRY DIRTY SHIRLEY don’t get nearly enough love. Lastly, please save room for the Samoa sundae. It's one of the best sundaes in the city.
7. Experimental Cocktail Club - Flatiron
Calling all music lovers! If you’re in search of a bar with live music and fantastic, interesting cocktails, you have to check out Experimental Cocktail Club in Flatiron.
Experimental Cocktail Club New York (ECC New York) is a revival of international luxury collective Experimental Groups’ famed cocktail haven of the same name, which shuttered its lauded Lower East Side outpost in 2016. Now an intimate subterranean lounge, ECC New York occupies the space beneath French wine bar La Compagnie Flatiron, creates an intriguing dual concept experience for guests.
A well-curated selection of rare French spirits and liqueurs, as well as a number of non-alcoholic creations and inventive snacks, are also offered. THE 80s CALLED; THEY WANT THEIR MARTINI BACK was a delightful gin martini 10/10.

What makes it special
The vibe here is unforgettable — from the themed decor to the perfectly curated playlist. Music is a key ingredient in Garret Richard’s creative process. As he puts it:
“Music has been a big inspiration for my craft from the start. I got into retro culture through Capitol Record's Ultra Lounge series at the end of high school. Combing through the liner notes of those albums led me to the work of Sven Kirsten and Jeff Berry. I would not have found my love of tropical drinks and cocktails in general without those records. Recently, I named a drink after The Ventures's ‘Ginza Lights.’ It’s a highball style drink that combines elements of Japan's Chu-hai with the tropical Wray and Ting cocktail.”

Garret Richard
Bar Manager, Sunken Harbor Club
